To understand why our furniture is different to the majority of furniture, you need look into more detail as to how it came to be…
All of the wood used in the furniture you see has been reclaimed, salvaged or saved, and expertly hand crafted in Brighton, UK
Most of these woods are not readily available commercially, as they are mainly slow grown woods. The quality of woods used mean this furniture is extremely tough and durable, and is built to last… …to really last!
As it is reclaimed, the wood has been ageing for many years, meaning you don’t get the movement and warping that occurs with virgin woods.
As the wood has been salvaged and aged in domestic dwellings, with seasonal heating and cooling, the wood will also no longer expand and contract in response to its environment. This then allows special techniques to be used when it is put together…
Our furniture has been built using age-old carpentry techniques., its construction does not involve any screws or nails. Any screws or nails you may see were imbedded in the wood from its past life, before it was reclaimed.
Some of the techniques used include mortice + tennon joints, and mitre joints.
These are then either securely joined using square wooden pegs hammered through round holes, or using oak “biscuits”. This makes for very tough joint, using a tried and tested technique that has been used over hundreds of years. Its construction is in fact so tough, when tested to destruction with a sledge hammer, the wood will break before the joint does!
We are so confident in its durability, we offer lifetime guarantee’s on all furniture –
please note: this does not extend to damage caused by

Patina
The term “patina” is generally heard when describing antiques, but in essence is when the surface appearance of something has grown beautiful, especially with age or use, which adds value to an object and should not be cleaned
Apart from the aesthetic appearance and practical protection of patination, antique experts confirm that an object's value increases when its patination is intact because it is an important effect of the ageing process and this evidential history is reflected in the value of the piece.
Patina is everything that happens to an object over the course of time. The nick in the leg of a table, a scratch on a table top, the loss of moisture in the paint, the crackling of a finish or a glaze in ceramics, the gentle wear patterns on the edge of a plate. All these things add up to create a softer look, subtle colour changes, a character. Patina is built from all the effects, natural and man-made, that create a true antique.
Although most of this furniture is newly built, due to the age of many of the pieces of wood sourced for this furniture, a timeless finish (patina) has been naturally created.
